Dr. Houria Abdelrehem

High School Quran Teacher

Sister Houria Abdelrehem completed her Hifz upon her graduation in 1995, earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology. With 40 years of experience, she has worked with students aged five to twenty-five, leading halaqat for women and teaching Arabic, Quran, and Islamic Studies. In addition, she has led numerous workshops for teachers, contributed to curriculum development, and organized various activities for Islamic schools in NYC. She holds a NYS chaplaincy certification (2015), a Master’s in Islamic Pedagogy from Canada, and various certifications for teaching in an Islamic environment. Sr. Houria also possesses Ijazahs in Quran, Islamic Studies, Fiqh, Aqeedah, and Hadeeth (2015). Her educational achievements include a master’s in Quranic sciences from the Islamic University of Minnesota (2021), an honorary doctorate in Arabic Literature for non-Arabic speakers (2022), and a Ph.D. in Tafseer and Qiraat from the Islamic University of Brussels (2023). She is also a member of the International Institute of Arabic Literature in Cairo (2023).

Sr. Houria has been teaching at Al-Mamoor School for six years, guiding students in grades 7 through 12 in Arabic, Quran, and Islamic Studies. Passionate about teaching, she especially enjoys working with high school students, preparing them to deliver the Adhan or Khutbah. She also engages in social work and family counseling within her community. Sr. Houria believes that every child deserves an adult who will never give up on them and is dedicated to helping her students strengthen their faith by understanding the power of their connection with Allah (SWT).
