Unicef Club

In a world dominated by strife, do you think you can make a change? Do you think you can make an impact in Afghanistan, in Syria, in Bangladesh, in Yemen, in Nigeria, in over 190 countries? Think again.

The United Nations International Children’s Fund (UNICEF) works “to advocate for the protection of children’s rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential.” The UNICEF Clubs are embedded in the belief that the youth have an important role to play in the advocating of children’s rights. How many times have you seen student walkouts, student-led protests, teenagers speaking out against gun violence, against world hunger, against climate change, against political and social issues that imprison us within the boundaries of a broken government?

We can make a difference.

How, you might ask? UNICEF is the answer.

We are partnering with UNICEF USA and reaching out to our community and our peers to fundraise and stand up for the rights of the oppressed.

“And they give food, in spite noof love for it, to the needy, the orphan, and the captive. [Saying], “We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We don’t want from you either reward or gratitude. Indeed, we fear from our Lord a Day austere and distressful.’” (The Noble Qur’an, Surah Insan, ayahs 8-10)

Allah (SWT) continues by saying, “So Allah will deliver them from the horror of that Day, and grant them radiance and joy, and reward them for their perseverance with a Garden ˹in Paradise˺ and ˹garments of˺ silk. There they will be reclining on ˹canopied˺ couches, never seeing scorching heat or bitter cold.” (Surah Insan, ayahs 11-13)

Everyone is a valuable asset to the club. The president’s role is to communicate with the members of the club to fundraise, advocate, and plan events. The vice-president highlights the essentials of the meeting and is qualified to assist any of the project managers. The historian deals with record keeping, as well as maintaining all important files for the club. The treasurer is in charge of budgeting and spending wisely. All the members are divided into three teams, the event planning committee, the advocacy team, and the fundraising panel.
